News release from the City of Huntsville:
Huntsville, Ala. --- Mayor Loretta Spencer and the Huntsville Sports Commission held a press conference today announcing that Huntsville will be the site of the third national qualifying venue for the Super Retriever Series. The event will be held October 31 - November 3, 2007. This is the first Super Retriever Series to be held in the State of Alabama.
"This event brings a great opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy watching championship level dog hunt tests, field trials and the exciting Super Fly and Super V events," Mayor Spencer stated. "I would like to thank the Jones Family for providing the perfect setting for the hunt tests and the field trials that will be held on their farm."
The hunt tests and field trials, which tests each dog's hunting savvy and ability to search for decoys amid various obstacles, will be held on the Jones Family Farm located off Garth Road.
"We are very excited to be the host for this event," Raymond Jones, Jr. commented during the press conference. "We hope that a lot of people will be able to come out and enjoy what a spectacular event this will be."
The Super Retriever Series features four events; hunt tests, field trials, the Super Fly and the Super V challenges. The Super Fly and Super V events will be held in the parking lot at the Valley Bend at Jones Farm Shopping Center in front of Marshall's. Pools will be in place to provide a splash as the dogs compete to see who can jump the furthest and the highest.
"Our community continues to benefit from the events recruited by the Huntsville Sports Commission," Mayor Spencer continued. "Not only do they bring events which provide the opportunity for residents to enjoy a variety of competitive sports, but these events also increase business for our restaurants, hotels and retail."
In 2006 the estimated economic impact for events recruited by the sports commission was more than $6.2 million.
"We are on schedule to exceed that number this year," Ralph Stone, director of the Huntsville Sports Commission stated. "Huntsville has earned the reputation for successfully hosting top-level events and that has assisted our city in being selected for new events such as this one and the Jr. College Men's Golf Championship to be held here next year."
The Huntsville Sports Commission was formed by Mayor Spencer in 2000 and has hosted events representing 17 different sports.
